The list of biggest celebrity taxpayers of India was headed by a star whose films have earned a huge ₹2600 crore at the box office in the last year. This biggest tax-paying celebrity in the country paid ₹92 crore in taxes in the last year alone. In India, top film stars and sports icons earn enough to get to pay crores in taxes. Celebrities may not rival big businessmen in the matter of earnings, but they are still among the highest-paid individuals in our country.
Fortune India released the list of the highest tax-paying celebrities in India in September this year. This list featured celebs who had paid high taxes for the 2023-24 financial year. Superstar Shah Rukh Khan topped the list, unsurprisingly, with ₹92 crore paid in taxes. This was expected given that Shah Rukh had a massive 2023 with three blockbuster releases. But the distance with which he was ahead of the rest was astonishing.
The next name after Shah Rukh was Tamil star Vijay, popularly known as Thalapathy among fans. The 50-year-old paid ₹80 crore tax in 2023-24. The two bigwigs were followed by Salman Khan ( ₹75 crore), Amitabh Bachchan ( ₹71 crore), and Virat Kohli ( ₹66 crore). He was followed by Ajay Devgn, at sixth spot, who paid a tax of ₹42 crore. While MS Dhoni, in the seventh spot, paid a tax of ₹38 crore, Ranbir Kapoor, in 8th spot, made a tax payment of ₹36 crore. Both Hrithik Roshan and Sachin Tendulkar gave ₹28 crore as tax.
Several other celebrities who made it to the top 20 list of taxpayers are — Kapil Sharma ( ₹26 crore), Sourav Ganguly ( ₹23 crore), Kareena Kapoor ( ₹20 crore), Shahid Kapoor ( ₹14 crore), Hardik Pandya ( ₹13 crore), and Kiara Advani ( ₹12 crore). Both Mohanlal and Allu Arjun paid ₹14 crore as tax. Pankaj Tripathi and Katrina Kaif paid ₹11 crore tax each this year. The top-ranked female celeb in the list was Kareena Kapoor, just outside the top 10 with ₹20 crore tax paid. Aamir Khan and Rishabh Pant paid ₹10 crore tax each and got the 21st and 22nd spot on the list, respectively.
